Honor has officially confirmed that the Magic 8 RSR Porsche Design edition is the final smartphone produced in partnership with Porsche Design. This announcement came shortly after Honor’s January 2026 launch event where the brand unveiled its latest flagship, alongside the Magic 8 Pro Air and Watch GS 5.
The Magic 8 RSR Porsche Design stands out with top-tier hardware featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and advanced imaging capabilities tailored for professional use. This model incorporates a 200-megapixel telephoto camera, a 2.35x teleconverter lens, CIPA-rated 6.5 stops of stabilization, and is Honor’s first device supporting a professional imaging kit.

Compared to its predecessors, the Magic 8 RSR continues the luxury and performance legacy established by the earlier Porsche Design line, which kicked off in late 2023. The collaboration initially launched with the Honor Magic V2 RSR Porsche Design, a foldable flagship with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, priced at roughly $2,260. Subsequent editions like the Magic 6 RSR and Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design models retained the premium positioning with configurations targeting high-end users.
While Honor and Porsche Design have not disclosed reasons for ending their collaboration, industry patterns suggest brand partnerships tend to be cyclical and marketing-driven rather than long-term product strategies. Notably, the Porsche Design series played a strategic role in positioning Honor as a premium brand following its separation from Huawei.
On pricing, the new Magic 8 RSR Porsche Design sits at the high end of Honor’s lineup, reflecting its flagship specifications and luxury branding. With the partnership concluding, future Honor devices are expected to focus more on their own brand identity without co-branding with Porsche Design.
From a practical standpoint, the Magic 8 RSR Porsche Design offers cutting-edge hardware and photography features. However, its premium price and eventual discontinuation of the Porsche Design badge may affect its appeal for buyers seeking exclusivity versus pure performance. We recommend those interested in a Porsche co-branded phone consider availability soon, as this edition marks the end of that era. For those prioritizing robust specs and camera capabilities, Honor’s upcoming releases may continue to deliver, albeit without Porsche’s luxury association.
