RedMagic 11 Air Debuts with Snapdragon 8 Elite and Fan Cooling

Nubia’s RedMagic brand has launched the RedMagic 11 Air, a gaming smartphone that combines high-end performance with a slim, transparent design featuring an active cooling fan. The announcement, confirmed by official sources, highlights RedMagic’s latest attempt to deliver a device optimized for gamers today.

The RedMagic 11 Air competes directly with flagship gaming phones like the ASUS ROG Phone 7 and Xiaomi Black Shark 6, while also positioning itself against premium mainstream options such as Apple’s iPhone 15 and Google’s Pixel 8. Compared to its predecessors, the 11 Air offers a thinner chassis and updated internals that aim to balance raw power and thermal management in a compact frame.

The phone sports a 6.85-inch AMOLED screen with a 1.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate, marketed as a “true full screen” because it incorporates a 16MP under-display selfie camera. Its 95.1 percent screen-to-body ratio is achieved through ultra-thin bezels measuring just 1.25mm. Notable display technologies include 2592Hz PWM dimming and DC dimming for reduced eye strain during long gaming sessions.

Under the hood, the RedMagic 11 Air runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with the brand’s proprietary Redcore R4 gaming chip, backed by LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. The company’s CUBE Sky Engine powers performance optimization, resulting in reportedly more stable frame rates in games than MediaTek Dimensity 9500-powered devices. The 144Hz refresh rate is supported across many game titles, enhancing visual smoothness.

RedMagic’s gaming heritage is evident in the inclusion of professional shoulder trigger buttons with a 520Hz touch sampling rate. Thermal management is addressed through a complex cooling system that includes an aerospace-grade aluminum frame, graphene copper foil, a 4D vapor chamber, and a built-in RGB-lit active fan. This setup is currently the thinnest in the industry for a phone with a built-in cooling fan, measuring 7.85mm thick.

The device is powered by a 7000mAh battery supporting 120W wired fast charging plus bypass charging, allowing sustained gaming without battery degradation. It operates on REDMAGIC OS 11.0, which integrates AI features such as image search, real-time translation, object recognition, and an innovative AI tactical coach for gameplay assistance.

The RedMagic 11 Air will launch initially in Quantum Black and Stardust White, with an Aurora Silver option arriving in March. Pricing starts at 3,699 yuan for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant, approximately $530 USD, while the 16GB RAM and 512GB model will cost 4,399 yuan or around $631 USD.

We see the RedMagic 11 Air as an intriguing option for gamers seeking top-tier hardware at a competitive price point, especially those valuing integrated fan cooling and high refresh rate displays. Its price positioning undercuts many flagship alternatives, but practical considerations like repairability and long-term software support remain to be assessed once the phone reaches broader markets.
